La. Governor plans layoffs to close budget gap
www.EmploymentCrossing.com
According to the Associated Press, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal says he plans to cut at least 355 state employees to help close a $341 million budget gap. The cuts will come largely from the Department of Corrections, but many could simply be reshuffled to other state employment.
Corrections Secretary Jimmy LeBlanc says he believes many laid off employees could be rehired for other positions, especially guard jobs at state prisons, where turnover is high.
The number of layoffs could grow if statewide officials and public colleges decide to cut staff to help deal with budget reductions for the fiscal year, which ends June 30.
The Governor can make some budget cuts, but the Legislatureâ??s joint budget committee must approve the rest. That committee is set to meet Friday to vote on the governorâ??s proposal.

My cousin is getting married 9/9/09 and I am trying to help her plan. She has a budget of 3000 for the ceremony/reception and cater. Lives in Marietta but is willing to go to surrounding cities considering the date is a popular one. And prefers to be married in a church and have reception near by or Have all in one some where nice. Any ideas or recommendations ?
Open Question: Guest house in Krabi?
I’ve just returned from a month in Thailand. I spent my time north of Bangkok. The guest houses and hotels where I stayed were clean, air conditioned, private bath with hot water, inexpensive, and the staff very friendly. I’m already planning my next visit. Can you recommend a good hotel or guesthouse in Krabi in the budget to middle price range?
Open Question: I’m looking to backpack Europe- what should my daily budget be?
It is still up in the air how the details of my trip are going to work out.
My preferred departure dates are June9th-June30th
I found an open-jaw flight from Boston-Venice, then Warsaw-Boston for $820 which i consider pretty decent
My tentative plan is
venice-prague-cesky krumlov-krakow (with a side trip to Auschwitz) -Warsaw
I’ve been reading various backpacking books and tons of website articles/ blogs that are seem to contradict each other on daily costs.
I already know that my train travel is going to cost me $300
and the plane is going to be $820
but how much should I plan on spending on daily costs?
(hostel, food, museums, going out to bars/clubs)
PS- I’m 18, and if you could think of any good youth discount cards I would appreciate that as well.
