Open Question: I need money, should I get a loan or cash in a CD?
My husband just lost his job and we need money for our bills that are due on February 1st (rent: $370, electricity: $120, credit card: $125). We have a $1000 CD that doesn’t mature until December 2009. Should we cash in the CD or take out a personal loan?

My husband’s grandparents offered to buy the CD from us if we ever needed it so we could have them buy it so we don’t have to deal with the penalties and fees. Should we give them a call?
I also wanted to mention that my husband cannot collect unemployment because he was laid off from a temp job. We have been looking for a new job (even a temp job) for the past week. We have submitted at least 15 applications/resumes and put his name on temp lists at several temp agencies.
“I have a crazy idea . Why don’t YOU get a job ?”

I am in college full time – 18 credit hours. I do work online at chacha.com but it’s still not enough to pay $600 out of our $1000 worth of bills.
“What do you mean by your grandparents would purchase the CD from you?”

They would buy the actual Certificate of Deposit for $1000 and we would sign it over to them. We lose the interest that would be incurred by December but we don’t have to pay any fees.

I have since learned that I have an account with a hospital, for him and it is in collections on my credit report. What can I do?
